The Girl with All The Gifts by M.R Carey

“You have to open it to find out.” -p.276

Curious Book Reviewer says: 5/5 πŸ‘‘

I’m so happy I read this just before “The Girl with all the Gifts” hit the Theatres, thanks to @joearcana! Check out the review on his bookstagram πŸ™‚

πŸ‘‘

Melanie is different from everyone, and she doesn’t know why. Everyday, military-like people bolt πŸ”’her down into a moving chair and wheel her to lessons, showers 🚿 and meals. Why would they do that? She walks perfectly fine. But Melanie doesn’t think too much of it; she’s well taken care of. Or is she?

πŸ‘‘

Melanie hates her food (literal grubs πŸ›), loves her lessons with Miss Justineau, and has a love-hate relationship with her cell room. Life here is pretty okay.Β

πŸ‘‘

Until one day, the secret breaks out, like how Pandora’s box opens with a cataclysmic punch. Melanie’s strange but comfortable world shatters almost as quickly and loudly as a gunshot. Now she realises why she’s so different. And like how the tale of Pandora goes, there’s a massive price to pay… for who or what she is.

πŸ‘‘

It’s a completely original and fascinating dystopian story that centres around an unlikely protagonist, Melanie. Β

πŸ‘‘

I can’t make my review very telling because it’ll spoil the story. All I can say is go and read the book before you watch the movie!!! It’s really a 5/5 read.

Curiosity level: 😻 The book to read this month/year 😻
